Courtenay represents companies and individuals in the media, entertainment and publishing industries. 

Client Work

Courtenay has extensive experience in intellectual property portfolio management, advising on global IP protection, enforcement strategies and dispute resolution. 

In the entertainment sector, Courtenay manages the trademark portfolio for the world’s largest non-fiction media and entertainment company, handling trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement of network brands, television titles, and licensed merchandise in over 170 jurisdictions. 

In the publishing realm, Courtenay has worked with first-time and best-selling authors, academic writers, and journalists.  She serves publishers and writers, and has experience with collaboration/co-writer agreements, work-for-hire agreements, holding deals, and self-published, hybrid and traditional book publishing contracts.

Previous Work

Before joining ArentFox Schiff, Courtenay worked in book publishing at Doubleday (imprint of Penguin Random House) and Little, Brown and Company (imprint of Hachette), and was an intellectual property associate in the New York office of a prominent international law firm where she managed the IP portfolio of a major global news agency.

Professional Activities

Courtenay is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and the D.C. Bar Arts, Entertainment, Media and Sports Law Community.
