Partner Joanne Faycurry has been recognized as a 2021 “Shero” by the Washtenaw Community College Foundation, honoring her commitment to empowering teens and women and advancing women through the community college system. Joanne will be recognized at the 2021 WCC Women’s Council Celebration of Women’s Leadership.

Joanne is a tireless advocate for women and diversity. She recently led a pro bono team alongside Period Equity for three individual plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit against the State of Michigan and its Department of Treasury for sex-based discrimination in taxing menstrual products. She has been repeatedly recognized by Thomson Reuters’ Michigan Super Lawyers and U.S. World News & Report’s Best Lawyers in the America.

In 2018, Joanne was honored with the Mentor of the Year Award by the Metro Detroit Chapter of the Women of Tomorrow Mentor & Scholarship Program. About her work in the program, Joanne said, “The ability to change the future course of a young woman’s life for the better simply by giving an hour of one’s time each month, showing up and giving a damn when very few if anyone else in their lives have, is profound. In terms of social impact – best investment in the future I will ever make.”
