ArentFox Schiff is proud to be a sponsor of the 63rd Annual Hawaii Tax Institute Conference, where partners Cindy Brittain, Brian Janowsky, and Christine Quigley, along with Senior Associate Xiang Qu and Associate Jiahua Wang, will be presenting.

In “The Good, Bad, and Ugly of Wealth Transfer Planning for Residents in High Income Tax States,” Cindy Brittain, Xiang Qu, and Christine Quigley will explore the unique wealth transfer planning challenges facing individuals residing in high income tax jurisdictions. The panel will discuss how state tax rules can impact wealth preservation and transfer strategies, examine common planning pitfalls, and highlight opportunities to minimize tax exposure while helping families achieve their long-term legacy and succession planning goals.

In “Mind the Gap: Navigating Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax,” Brian Janowsky along with his co-presenter Theresa Marx, Managing Director at CIBC Private Wealth US, will examine the complexities of generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax and the challenges fiduciaries face when administering trusts designed to benefit future generations. The session will provide practical guidance for determining whether a trust is exempt from GST tax and will equip attendees with the tools needed to identify, document, and navigate GST tax issues with greater confidence.

In “CRS 2.0 Influence on Chinese High Net Worth Family Planning,” Jiahua Wang, together with Jiali Mao of Trident Trust and Lulu Jiang of East & Concord Partners, will discuss the impact of increasing global tax transparency on cross-border families. The panel will examine the implications of CRS 2.0, the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework, China’s new offshore trust tax rules, and outbound investment regulations for Chinese high net worth families with US connections.
