Prero Discusses Connecticut’s New PFAS Labeling Requirements

Judah Prero was quoted in a recent Chemical Watch News & Insight article examining Connecticut’s approval of a new PFAS product label designed to align with similar requirements in New Mexico. The article explores how increased consistency among state PFAS disclosure laws could affect manufacturers.
Judah said the alignment could simplify compliance for companies selling products in multiple states “If you’re going to have to label, yes, it would be much easier if all the states were consistent with the requirements, so you wouldn’t have to come up with unique labels.”
He also noted that the harmonization may present challenges because New Mexico’s PFAS labeling requirements remain the subject of ongoing litigation, describing the alignment as “a bit of a double-edged sword.”
While consistency may ease compliance obligations, Judah said some manufacturers continue to object to the labeling requirements and the symbol itself. “From a compliance standpoint, it helps when everything is the same,” he said. “Moving beyond that, though, I think industry is still not happy with that particular picture, or about the fact that they have to label in the first place.”
