Arent Fox Adds Two Prominent Intellectual Property Partners in New York

New York, NY — Arent Fox LLP is pleased to announce that experienced Intellectual Property lawyers Steven I. Weisburd and Richard LaCava have joined the firm as partners in the New York office.

The two attorneys previously practiced together at Dickstein Shapiro, where Mr. Weisburd was deputy leader of the firmwide IP group. Mr. Weisburd and Mr. LaCava both have wide-ranging practices that span transactions and prosecution of patents, as well as litigation and enforcement of IP rights for clients.

“Arent Fox is widely recognized as having one of the leading Intellectual Property practices in the country,” said New York Managing Partner Andrew I. Silfen. “Adding Steven and Richard will increase our bench strength to firm clients around the globe and enhance our capabilities in the New York office with the presence of two preeminent and accomplished IP advisers.”

Mr. Weisburd advises international technology clients in patent, trademark, copyright, and computer law matters. He represents companies in litigation, licensing agreements, and in strategizing and procuring patent and trademark rights. He also handles IP due diligence and monetization matters. Licensed to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), federal and appeals courts, and the US Supreme Court, Mr. Weisburd has represented clients in such sectors as computers, image processing, communications, piezoelectrics, finance, surveillance, and musical instruments.

Mr. LaCava focuses on prosecution and enforcement of patent and trademark rights, and as general counsel on IP issues. He has represented clients in mechanical and electro-mechanical products, medical devices, chemical engineering and formulation, computer and information systems, hardware and software, business methods, and materials engineering and manufacturing. He also works on infringement and patent validity matters, IP portfolio strategy and development, and due diligence and monetization. Mr. LaCava is licensed to practice before federal and appeals courts, the US Supreme Court, and the USPTO.

“Steven and Richard are gifted attorneys who, between them, handle the entire gamut of IP matters, from prosecution and licensing through enforcement and litigation, as well as monetization and portfolio development,” said Marylee Jenkins, head of the firm’s IP group in New York. “Arent Fox has established its reputation through standout work for our IP clients across so many areas of business and technology. Steven and Richard fit right in with our profile. We are confident our clients will quickly benefit from their arrival to Arent Fox.”

Mr. Weisburd has lectured on IP matters nationally and internationally, and is currently chair of the Practicing Law Institute’s nationally presented program “Handling Intellectual Property Issues in Business.” He earned his law degree at the Temple University Beasley School of Law, cum laude, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hartford.

Mr. LaCava is former co-chair of the Patent Committee of the New York State Bar Association – Intellectual Property Law Section. He earned his JD at Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center and a BS from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Chambers Global, Chambers USA, and Legal 500 have recognized the firm’s Intellectual Property practice and its attorneys as industry leaders. Arent Fox is one of the few “go-to” firms for novel and high-profile intellectual property issues. With more than 100 full-time IP professionals, the group offers a full range of services across copyright, patent, and trademark matters.
