Debra Albin-Riley and Lowell C. Brown Recognized as Top Health Care Lawyers by Daily Journal
In highlighting their recent work, Daily Journal focused on Debra arguing Bonni v. St. Joseph Health System before the California Supreme Court in May and Lowell’s counseling clients on doctors’ rights and helping hospitals with COVID-19 vaccine exemptions.
Daily Journal reports that Debra “specializes in health care litigation as a lead trial lawyer in complex medical staff and hospital cases and as first chair in medical staff peer review hearings. She is a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America.”
- Debra told Daily Journal, “Peer review hearings are becoming more like litigation, expensive and challenging. Our hospitals have enough to do with COVID without tying up doctors in protracted proceedings. Any time we can achieve a good resolution more simply, it’s a win.”
- Debra has been recognized by Chambers USA and Legal 500 and was listed as a Lawdragon Magazine “Top 500 Leading Litigation Lawyers.” She also has been named as a “Super Lawyer” by Los Angeles Magazine every year since 2004 and is rated “AV Preeminent” by Martindale Hubbell. Debra has also been among Daily Journal’s “Top Women Lawyers.”
Lowell and Debra lead the firm’s West Coast health care team. He counsels hospitals and their medical staffs in various matters, primarily medical staff peer review. Lowell told Daily Journal, “I work in an area that’s probably the most important and least well known of anything that goes on in the law of health care. I work in the area where human tragedy, health care and the law collide.”
- Lowell gave Daily Journal specific examples of why some doctors are the subjects of disciplinary action: “Most of the time, most of these physicians wouldn’t be in trouble if they could just admit that they need help.”
- He has routinely been named to The Best Lawyers in America®, Legal 500, and Super Lawyers. Chambers USA rates him as one of the top health care attorneys in the state of California.
