Helstrom Appointed Chair of ABA Nonprofit Committee

The Nonprofit Organizations Committee is designed to serve as a resource for nonprofit lawyers on issues affecting nonprofit organizations in a rapidly changing legal and regulatory environment and monitors and updates the Model Nonprofit Corporation Act. Shira’s three-year term will run from Fall 2026 to 2029. 

Shira advises tax-exempt nonprofit organizations throughout their lifecycles. From formation and qualifying for tax exempt status through their ongoing operations, clients rely on Shira to help them structure and manage a wide range of operational, programmatic, and transactional matters consistent with requirements under the Federal tax laws and the state charitable and nonprofit laws. Her clients include public charities, private operating and grantmaking foundations, social welfare organizations, trade and professional associations and other tax-exempt organizations representing a broad range of industries.

Shira is a frequent author and presenter. She co-authored the “Intermediate Sanctions” BNA Portfolio, was on the Task Force that drafted the Revised Model Nonprofit Corporation Act and is recognized as a Leading Partner (Not-for-Profit Organizations) by The Legal 500.
