Mitesh Patel

Mitesh Patel is a Senior Attorney in ArentFox Schiff’s Trademark and Copyright Group, based in the firm’s San Francisco office. He advises clients on various facets of intellectual property strategy, including licensing and ownership, enforcement, product launches, M&A and financing due diligence, and open-source compliance. 

Mitesh is known as the “go-to” advisor for creative solutions to complex and novel IP issues. He counsels multinational businesses across industries on AI regulations, enterprise AI governance, policy development, and multijurisdictional risk management and advises on AI’s impact on employment agreements, partnering with foreign counsel across multiple jurisdictions to address work-for-hire, AI output, and utilization terms.

Mitesh’s brand protection practice encompasses global trademark clearance, prosecution, enforcement, and dispute resolution. He has led large-scale counterfeiting-prevention and brand enforcement initiatives coordinating with foreign counsel across dozens of jurisdictions, and he routinely clears product names and files priority trademarks on tight timelines for leading technology and consumer products companies. He also serves as lead dispute-resolution counsel for major consumer electronics manufacturers, designing scalable enforcement and online takedown frameworks.

Prior to joining ArentFox Schiff in August 2026, Mitesh was a Senior Associate in Reed Smith’s Intellectual Property & Emerging Technologies Group. Before that, he practiced at Hopkins & Carley, LLP (now Lathrop GPM), where he further developed his experience in intellectual property law.

Life Beyond the Law

Outside of work, Mitesh is an Adjunct Professor, teaching Technology Licensing at Santa Clara University School of Law and an IP Clinic Supervisor at Gonzaga School of Law. He previously taught Business Law at Santa Clara University’s Leavy School of Business And the University of San Francisco’s School of Management, and helped establish the Intellectual Property Clinic at Lincoln Law School under the USPTO Law School Clinic Certification Pilot Program.

Mitesh serves as IP Co-Chair of the IP Law Section of SABANA.
