AFS Partner and Family Office Co-Leader Kevin Matz will present at ACTEC’s 2026 Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland September 26, 2026.

In Kevin’s session “Estate Planning with Qualified Opportunity Zone (QOZ) Fund Interests,” he will address the key challenges and planning considerations estate planners face when incorporating qualified opportunity zone fund (QOZ) investments in estate planning after the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). Kevin will discuss the current regulatory and tax framework around QOZs, including recent changes and developments ushered in under OBBBA, and explore effective transaction structures and estate planning techniques to manage both tax and non-tax issues, taking into account the highly nuanced tax rules that apply to QOZ fund investments. Special attention will also be devoted to the impact of the deferred gain recognition date of December 31, 2026 under “Tranche 1” of the QOZ rules, including the impact of the Final QOZ regulations with respect to the upcoming deferred gain recognition date of December 31, 2026.
