Grimm Quoted on Health Care System Market Downturn

Health Care Practice Co-Leader Douglas Grimm was quoted on how the publicly traded health system Q2 financial reports are a barometer of the state of the current marketplace, as well as a sign of what is coming.
“It shows which way the winds are blowing, the directional pressure,” he said.
After Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits expired last year, many enrollers became priced out of the marketplace, causing more individuals to go without insurance. Douglas said that he hasn’t yet seen ACA subsidy expirations affect nonprofit health systems to the same extent as some of these investor-owned health systems are reporting, but those effects are definitely starting.
“The thing that is so concerning is there’s no fix on the horizon,” he said. “I think we’re going to see more hospitals in more distress, and that’s going to shape the marketplace.”
