Hethcoat Quoted on Liability Questions Facing BCI Use

Longevity & Healthspan Industry Co-Leader Gayland Hethcoat was quoted in a segment airing on Germany’s national public radio about brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), an emerging technology for treating diseases and conditions with neurological causes.
Discussing the novel legal and liability questions that may arise as BCI technology advances, Gayland said, “What happens if a patient receives a brain-computer implant and something goes wrong, causing harm? Is it a hardware problem, a software problem, an issue with wireless signals, or human error? Who bears the risk and liability for any resulting damage?”
