Hunter Carter Comments on the US Supreme Court’s Impending Decision on Same-Sex Marriage

Partner Hunter Carter was featured in Law360, Laywers.com, and Society for Human Resource Management commenting on the US Supreme Court’s hearings on two key gay rights cases: Hollingsworth v. Perry, a dispute centered on California’s Proposition 8, and US v. Windsor, which targets a part of DOMA that defines marriage for federal benefits purposes as “only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife.”

“America has moved on and so will the court,” Mr. Carter said to Law360, believing the court would, in fact, issue a broader ruling in the Prop 8 case and determine that any ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional. He went on to address on the different approaches the court could take and the impact the decision may have on employee benefits.
