Aida Al-Akhdar

With a nationally scoped practice dedicated to the regulatory, transactional, and compliance needs of skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, continuing care retirement communities, and independent living operators, Aida offers the depth of regulatory knowledge and industry-specific insight that long-term care and senior living companies require to navigate an increasingly complex legal landscape.

As a long-term care regulatory counsel, Aida advises clients on the full spectrum of issues that arise in the ownership, operation, and growth of senior living facilities. This includes advising on state licensure requirements, maintaining ongoing regulatory compliance, and guiding operators through the licensure processes that senior living and long-term care facilities must satisfy across multiple jurisdictions.

Aida’s transactional practice centers on M&A regulatory due diligence for long-term care and senior living transactions. Aida regularly supports buyers, sellers, and investors in health care mergers and acquisitions by identifying and analyzing regulatory risks, advising on change of ownership (CHOW) reporting requirements, and ensuring that deal structures comply with applicable federal and state health care laws. This due diligence work extends to internal corporate restructurings, where Aida counsels clients on the regulatory filings and notifications triggered by ownership changes and organizational realignments.

Aida assists health care practitioners in starting and growing physician-owned practices, enhancing the financial viability of those practices while navigating the complicated legal landscapes that vary on a state-by-state basis. Aida also advises health care clients on the corporate practice of medicine doctrine, helping providers structure their organizations and professional relationships in compliance with state-specific prohibitions and exceptions. 

Aida previously served as a summer associate at ArentFox Schiff. While in law school, she clerked at a boutique law firm in Arlington, Virginia; with the Office of Administrative Law Judges at the US Department of Labor, where she wrote decisions and orders in temporary labor certification appeals and drafted a comprehensive opinion on a medical claim dispute under the Black Lung Benefits Act; and at a corporate, bankruptcy, and IP-focused law firm in Delaware.

In law school, Aida was a Dean’s and Meyers Fellow for the Legal Rhetoric Department and served as a Senior Note and Comment Editor for the American University Business Law Review.
